Message From Our Chairman
“CORE Mission in Latin America”
“Greetings.
First, I would like to take the time to thank you for visiting
our website. Latin America is a diverse continent whose people
have contributed in the unique history of the Western
Hemisphere. It is the Congress of Racial Equality’s goal to
build a bridge between our two societies in an effort to promote
mutual understanding and an exchange of ideas.”
Latin America, with a
population in excess of 560 million, constitutes one of the
worlds most ethnically diverse regions. In addition to the
indigenous population, the region contains the world’s largest
concentration of transplanted individuals of African descent, as
well as a significant population descended from European
colonists.
As one of the “Big Four”
American Civil Rights organizations, CORE has spent over six
decades at the forefront of the struggle for equality. In the 21st
Century, CORE hopes to build upon the successes of the 20th,
expanding upon them to encompass the people of not just the
United States, but also, the world.
CORE’S history bestows upon the
organization the duty to inform both black and white America of
conditions in Latin America. Increasing national consciousness
on both sides of the equator can only help to promote and
strengthen relations between the peoples of North and South
America.
In our shared history as a
hidden population, the people of color residing in the Western
Hemisphere have a vested interest in pooling their resources,
identifying issues, and promoting justice.
“To that end, The Congress of
Racial Equality hopes to continue the glorious tradition of the
Civil Rights Movement and bring Latin America’s social concerns
to the attention of the American public.”
Sincerely,
Mr. Roy
